A selection of Breyer's hypotheticals

Now to me, I grant you I'm not an expert, but it looks at about the same level as I have a sensor on my garage door at the lower hinge for when the car is coming in and out, and the raccoons are eating it. So I think of the brainstorm of putting it on the upper hinge, OK? Now I just think that how could I get a patent for that?"

Gonzales v. Raich, whether state laws protect sick people who use marijuana for medical reasons from a federal ban on the drug, Nov. 29, 2004:

--Breyer: "You know, he grows heroin, cocaine, tomatoes that are going to have genomes in them that could, at some point, lead to tomato children that will eventually affect Boston. ... So you're going to get around all those examples by saying what?"

--Randy Barnett, representing sick clients who have been prescribed marijuana: "By saying that it's all going to depend on the regulatory scheme."

--Breyer: "So now what you're saying is, in a commerce clause case, what we're supposed to do is to start to look at the federal scheme and the state scheme and see, comparing the federal scheme and the state scheme, whether, given the state scheme, the federal scheme is really necessary to include this.

Spring practice: Wolverines are Big Ten's wild card; Spartans stuck in ...

The mass exodus never happened, and Ohio State is geared up to annoy the rest of the country with another BCS national championship push. There's a clear gap between the Buckeyes and the rest of the league, though Wisconsin and Penn State could inch closer by finding capable starting quarterbacks. Illinois lost a lot of star power, but has talented reinforcements, and Michigan is the league's acknowledged wild card. The league's middle could be reshuffled as teams like Purdue, Michigan State, Indiana and Northwestern all return proven quarterbacks.

What we know: Linebackers James Laurinaitis and Marcus Freeman are back, along with cornerback Malcolm Jenkins, to headline an outstanding defense.
What we don't know: The health of Freeman and defensive end Lawrence Wilson following injuries.

Sex workers in it for a quick buck

The Prostitutes Collective believes most sex workers simply use the industry to make a quick buck.

National Coordinator Catherine Healy says only a third of New Zealand's prostitutes use sex as a means to live. She says the remainder do not stay with the world's oldest profession for very long.

Ms Healy says one of the motivations for being in the profession is to have things they would not normally be able to afford. She says they earn up to $120 an hour, which can open up a lot of opportunities.

Ms Healy says about 20 per cent of sex workers have taken up tertiary study.

New Delhi, February 29

All security measures are also in place, CBSE chairman Ashok Ganguly claimed.

While the class 10th examinations will be conducted from March 1 to 27, the Class 12 examinations will be held from March 1 to April 2.

The examinations will be conducted across 5,018 centres of which 375 have been marked as sensitive and will have additional security measures. The National Capital Territory alone will have 1,109 centres.

The board, this year, is introducing redesigned High Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) question paper for both the standards. Based on the national curriculum framework2005, the new design includes about 10 per cent of very short answer questions and about 20 per cent of questions to assess HOTS.

Advising students to stay calm, Ganguly said the new pattern will test understanding of information and the focus will be on measuring students abilities to reason, justify and evaluate information.
