Coachella Will Make A Lovely Business Trip, In Bigger Than The Sound

It's the day when the secretive geniuses at Goldenvoice lift the curtain and reveal just what form of musical madness they made happen for us this year. Surely, it is something epic, something can't-miss. Probably Bowie and the Moz and Kevin Shields jamming together as the sun sets over the Empire Polo Fields, while Daft Punk plugs in the Pyramid across the lawn and Kylie and Madge begin limbering up in the dance tent. And Thom Yorke and Kanye will be there, doing a live version of The Eraser and handing out 7-inches and sunglasses and Ecstasy. It's going to be amazing. You have to be there. You have to.

This is all running through my head as I read the e-mail. "Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival announces line-up [yes! yes! yes!] ... tickets on sale Friday, January 25 at 10:00 am [OK, OK ...

TheStar.com | Sports | Shaquille O'Neal traded to Suns in blockbuster ...

O'Neal's move west adds fuel to the already intense rivalry between the Suns, the Lakers and his old teammate Kobe Bryant.

The trade required a significant financial commitment from the budget-conscious owner Robert Sarver because O'Neal is scheduled to make $20 million (all figures U.S.) this season and $20 million more each of the next two.

Marion makes $16.4 million this year and could opt out of the $17 million final year of his contract after this season. Banks has been in and out of the Suns' rotation the past two seasons.

The Heat also waived Luke Jackson.

O'Neal entered this season talking about how he wanted to win at least one more title, saying his "legacy" wouldn't be complete unless he left the game with at least five rings.

Extortion plot targets Ore. families of ex-pro athletes

PORTLAND, Ore. -- The families of former NFL defensive back Anthony Newman and former NBA guard Terrell Brandon were the victims of an extortion attempt, the Portland Police Bureau said.

Bobby Hayes, 41, was charged with theft by extortion and attempted theft by extortion. Police suspect he wrote threatening letters demanding $10,000 from the families of Newman and Brandon, according to court papers.

One of the letters arrived early last week at the home of Newman's 65-year-old mother. It was addressed to "NFL Mom."

"U don't know me, but I know U," it read. "I want 10K in cash in a black bag set next to your garage door Friday night. If you tell the police and try to be a hero you will be responsible for the murder of your whole family."

However Hayes told KGW Friday that he's wrongly accused.

Pat McKee: High School Q&A

Generally, football and basketball teams have the kind of community support that allows for schools to use these books as a form of fund-raising for their athletic departments. Some schools produce similar books for spring sports as well, but if your school has not found the advertising support to make some money (or at least break even) on producing a spring sports program, then it probably has chosen not to produce one.

If you want to see such a program produced for a spring sports in your school, meet with the athletic director and ask about it. And if ad revenues are the reason, then perhaps you can assist in seeking sponsor ads from others who share your feeling.

Under the Hood With Knight Rider 2.0: Trans Am vs. Ford Mustang ...

It had to be simple yet believable as a superhero." Once his vision was set, Belker turned to Ted Moser from Picture Car Warehouse to make his drawings come to life. But there was one big hurdle: The GT500KR doesn't technically exist quite yet. "So we had to finish their design first," Moser says. "Then we brought in a prop maker to create side skirts and spoilers out of wood, smooth them out, and sent them to a fiberglass shop to make molds. Once the parts are formed from those molds, we finish them and attach them to the car." One of the cooler features of the Mustang KITT is air-ride suspension, which allows its driver to lower the car's ride height when the vehicle morphs from Hero to Attack mode. "When it goes on the offensive, it gets slammed to the ground," Moser chuckles. Very aggressive, indeed.
